Fourteen U20s battle it out at the LNYC Midwinter Regatta Fourteen Ultimate 20s sailed in this traditional keelboat one design event with six local boats, two from Ottawa, two from Sarnia, two from Atlanta and one each from Chicago and Detroit. Two of these U20s had never been sailed by their new owners and another had never been raced by their new owners. We welcome these three newcomers to the class and appreciated their enthusiasum. Seasonably cold, slightly wet and gusty conditions on Friday made for a less than desirable day for setup and practice for the two day event. Contrary to earlier forecasts, the weather on Saturday couldn’t have been better for sailing with moderately good winds and cool temperatures and the predicted strong winds for the final race of the day. Congratulations go to Brad Boston and crew on “Honours” for their very strong performance as usual. Congratulations also to B.J. Jones and crew and Cody Hines and family for second and third places respectively. Very tight racing between second and ninth places was evidenced by only a nine point spread between these positions after the three races that comprised the regatta. Unfortunately the winds died just prior to the first start Sunday morning resulting in no racing for the day but very relaxed breakdowns and packing up for the trip back home. Thanks to all for coming and to those for making it happen. Click
