Brad Boston wins U20 Lake Huron Yachting Championship
by Charley Smart

Seven U20s gathered at Sarnia Yacht Club for the Lake Huron Yachting Championship, the first year for U20s in the long-standing Lake Huron event. The first day of racing provided fun, yet challenging conditions with winds averaging in the high teens, gusting to the mid twenties.  Waves ranged from 2-4 feet. Some seemed bigger at times.  At any rate, the conditions kept everyone on their toes, and caused some hot planing, as well as some very impressive broaches (see photos) and wipe-outs, though no damage occurred throughout the weekend.  Brad Boston dominated the day with four bullets.  The rest of the fleet was closely competitive with nearly every boat taking at least one 2nd or 3rd place finish.   The first race on day two was dominated by Stoked, the only U20 to get to the starting line at the gun. The rest of the fleet finished in order of their getting to the start line.  The second race was back to tight roundings and close finishes with winds having lessened a bit from the previous day, but with solid residual waves out of phase with the wind. Beating on port took you straight into the waves. Brad Boston, Honour; Cody Hines, Mini-Mini-Me; and and Steve Stollman, Stoked taking the top three spots.  On Sunday, the U20 fleet ran a single race in light air after an hour or so postponement in glassy conditions.
