Eight Ultimate 20s met in Sarnia, Ontario Canada to compete for the first U20 canadian Championships. In a regatta with a record-setting 12 races, Brad Boston claimed top honor on Honour. Jerry Hines and family, racing Mini-Me, and Peter and Sylvie Kitching, on Low Rider took second and third respectively.
Starting on Friday afternoon, the race committee challenged the fleet with five races, a total of 18 winward leeward legs. Friday's weather offered 10-15 not winds with puffs at the top end of the course pushing into the high teens. Saturday morning began similar to Friday, but increased through the day to finish in winds in the mid 20 knot range. The fleet saw lots of hot planning in double digits for the four Saturday races. Sunday morning's weather was a bit more forgiving with winds back down in the teens. The boats were off the water Sunday by shortly after noon.
Racing was typically tight U20 style with positions changing hands on every leg, adrenalin rushes at the roundings, and overlaps at the finishes.
Sarina Yacht club served as spectacular venue, and the Bostons were gracious hosts, setting a preview for a spectacular North American Championships next year.
