Verve One-Design 2004

It was a great weekend for racing the Verve Cup One Design Regatta in Chicago.

We had a truly International turnout with Peter and Sylivie Kitching coming in from Ottawa, and Brad Boston from Sarnia, Ontario. Steve Stollman got the furthest travel award coming up from Florida. Horace Holland came up from Alabama, and David Crall from Ohio. Gregg Henning and I merely had to traverse local expressways. In preparation for Saturday's racing 20 of us attacked the Margarita Bar at our favorite Mexican restaurant, and shared U20 camaraderie.

Saturday gave us 14-19 knt winds with 2-4 foot chop that tested both the trim and the helm. Spinnaker trimmers got a great workout. Three races on Saturday put Brad Boston in first place with 3 bullets, Greg Henning in clear second place, while the Kitchings and Horace Holland tied for third. Given the bumpy water, everyone was ready for the great dinner and party at the Chicago Yacht Club. Sunday was a picture-perfect sailing day with 10 knots of breeze, a few shifts to keep you honest, and 1-2 foot waves. Brad keep his winning streak, going undefeated for the regatta, while most other positions changed hands. Ultimate Fantasy moved ahead into second place, with Goombay Smash moving into third.
