Come on guys, there are still more Vipers and Melges 20s signed up for this event than U20s but the list is growing.

Hey Ultimate 20 Owners, we are getting good press by showing up to Charleston Race Week on Sailing Anarchy. Keep registrations coming. We are still the smallest sportboat fleet. Let's match the Melges 20 registrations!
-
Sounds like a blast - thanks for the option of the charters. Hopeful to have it on my calendar in 2012
-
Sadly, my kids have spring break the following week and I can't take off that much vacation at one time. :-(
-
Perhaps a few can be encouraged to go at Lake Norman Regatta. I presume this Regatta is still on in March.

Where are the U20's rigging and putting their boats into the river at Charleston Harbor??
-
All U20's who are considering racing at Charleston RW. Please note the following message, sent by the Regatta Chair today. Please register as quickly as possible to assure you can participate!!!!
Due to the unprecedented number of entrants, the difficult decision has been made to limit the number of inshore entries as of February 24. This is being done to preserve the high caliber of racing expected in Charleston. Please note the revised entry and payment dates below.
Inshore boats that are already entered must complete their registration with a payment in full by 1800 March 8, 2011 or their entry will be removed from the scratch sheet.
Entries received after March 8, 2011 will be considered on a case by case basis at the discretion of the organizing authority. Inshore Circles One and Two consist of the J/22, J/24, Ultimate 20, Viper 640, Melges 24, Melges 20 and J/80 classes. If you have not paid your entry fee please do so. Please remember, a registration is not complete until the entry fee is received.
All new entries for ONLY Inshore Circles One and Two as of February 24, 2011 will be placed on a waiting list.[/b]

Look above at the revised entry list............still growing.
-
Just an FYI the Owner, Driver rule and the Weight Limit Rule have been waived for this event. This has been notified to all contestants.
Race On!!!

Are there any boats interested in sharing a dock? Brad figures we could probably put 1/2 dozen boats in a well. It is closer to activities plus alot easier on you boats than where rafting is free. He figures it might cost about $100.00 per boat.

I've already been in touch with the harbourmaster and he gave me half a forty foot slip for $123. Apparently he already sold the other half to another U20, but I don't know who. It looks like the cost will be by the foot for whatever configuration out of the raft.
"would be $2.05/ft per night totaling $123 for 3 nights. W. Garrison Rudisill, Dockmaster <grudisill@charlestonharborresort.com>"
Cheers,
Rick

I'm interested in sharing the price
-
Is there any thought of trying to get the u20 group together for dinner or something while in Chareston?
-
Perhaps we could shoot for Saturday night if there is interest after people get oriented. Does anyone really know the area for Restaurants?

I'm in for a gathering, but no idea where. One of the Lake Norman guys (Eric) was suggesting a cookout if the weather looks good. The top of my list right now is just getting there and getting the boat in, then figure out the social issues.

I currently have a 50' slip at Charleston with only two boats in it. There is probably room for a couple of additional U20's. Let me know if you are interested before I tell the Harbor Master to fill up the slip.

Just my opinion, but for a regatta of this stature this is a pitiful showing for the U20 fleet. Lots of talk the past few years but now that we're doing it, where's the support? Charleston Race Week with a record 279 boats and only 12 U20s? Hardly a record for us. Just dissappointed, that's all.
We'll enjoy anyway.
-
I would like to thank Emily Jones for working hard to get this put together! I know 12 boats is not what we had hoped but it is a start!
I wish I could be there, but I would have to leave my students hanging. Tough to leave during the school year!

Numbers are rather low but we need to schedule much further out than last minute to give people time to plan their schedules. More important than this regatta is our NA's in August. People that are thinking of going should put their name on the list. The boys out west created a lot of enthusiasm last year that way and ended up with a great turnout. If you can not get good numbers out to your NA's, then we are kidding ourselves calling ourselves a one design class. Mike is doing a lot of work over in Holland. Everyone in the east and south should be supporting this regatta. Anyone we get from the west is bonus.

Chuck Ballew is sick and will not be sharing well with myself and Steve Rose. Perhaps we can put Dave Cralls group and ourselves in one well.

Sorry to have to stay in town but I'm sick. My crew, Cliff is on his way down and looking for a position. I gave him Don's mobile but if someone can use him, give his mobile 404-384-7286 a call.
I feel like crap. My tickets are available for the parties, and you are welcome to them. Everyone have fun.

How is the Class representing? Any results yet?

Here is the link to the cumulative results for all classes at CRW. The final race was a real challenge with a dying breeze and roaring current. Note all the classes with TLE (time limit expired). Our ratio of finishers was impressive given we started 15 minutes behind the Vipers and J80's. http://www.yachtscoring.com/event_results_cumulative.cfm?eID=407
Check out Sailing Anarchy and PhotoBoat.com for pictures and commentary.

Jim, congratulations to you and your crew! Definately would like to try out Charleston. Did anyone go out Saturday?
-
No U20 went out. Most people went sightseeing or go carting. Well run regatta with lots of wind and current.
