Title: Vang ratio

Hello everyone:

I am a newbie with U20.

I would like to know what ratio people are using for the vang, and if and where you are remoting to.

Hi Tin,  I've increased the standard 12:1 to 18:1 by changing the 2:1 cable to 3:1 amsteel and this really makes it easier to put vang on and realease it when needed.  Thus allowing crew to play the vang more in gusty conditions.

Tin,
 Just a word of caution. The vang can be your friend but it can also come back to bite you. Going upwind when you crank on the vang you can flatten out the lower portion of the main and keep the boat on its feet. Once you turn the corner you MUST release the vang. The boat will stop trying to round up on you on every puff and you will also keep the mast in column. If you don't keep the mast in column in puffy conditions with the kite up. You will break the mast.

Don,
I was looking at your vang photo.  Is your boomkicker boom support webbing from a dingy model?  Looks like it would be easy to adjust compared to U20 model, plus no holes.  Comments?  Thanks, Fred

Hi Fred,  this version boomkicker just happened to be what they sent me in 2004.  This model is still available and is perfect for the dry sail on a trailer U20 as boomkicker swings out of the way without hitting the deck when the keel is raised.  Adjustment as to how much lift you want is also very easy to change.

Thanks, Mark for the tip. I can use all the help to make life easier with the kite. I haven't used it before. So lots of learning to do.
