With the U20 NACs in Pensacola four weeks later on May 17-20 I'm sure many will have to choose between the two. I'd hate to do Charleston at the expense of poor attendance at the NACs. I could do both but if I have to choose it will be the NACs.
Let's here others intensions.............................?

Is it 3 days of racing or 4? I am planning on doing the NA's and adding it would add some transport costs. The biggest thing for me is time off. Tempting though if we have numbers.
-
NA's is first priority for Slippery. I hope if people are only doing one Regatta, it will be Pensacola.

With my vacation time restricted to summers now, I will not make it. I am using all of my personal days to be at North Americans in Pensacola!
I would love to do this regatta, but not in the cards this year.

For those who are thinking of doing both CRW and the NA's. I talked to John at Latis Yachting solutions about the cost of moving the boats from Charlestown to Pensacola for the NA's. He will move a boat for $950 per boat. We would get a better deal for 4 or more boats. Also he will setup the boat for $350ea.
Not the cheapest but an option if teams are short on time.

Nope. I'm sailing Sassy. Scissors is being charted by one of my crew.

Honour is planning to attend both races.

Has anyone been in touch with Charleston Race Week? How many boats do we need in order to get a start?

Emily Jones is coordinating this event.... Here are the links for registration and NOR... She is in contact with the race organizers.

Charleston Race Week has become “the” regatta to attend!!
Most folks who’ve participated in the past few Charleston Race Weeks (CRW) say the event lacks nothing. Perfect sailing breeze, comfortable temperatures, a gorgeous race venue and stellar on-shore and on-water race management are the rule, as evidenced by the unprecedented growth experienced by the South’s biggest regatta.
2011 had over 200 boats and the organizing committee thinks these numbers could reach 300 this year. Don’t be daunted by these numbers, though – they handle this with ease, both on the race course and back on land.
With our North Americans in Pensacola a month later, consider tuning up at CRW, leaving your boat (location TBD based on the number interested in this option) and then heading down to FL for our May NA’s.
Here is the link to the CRW home page http://www.charlestonraceweek.com/ There is a discounted entry prior to January 31. Last year they capped the number of participants, so don’t wait to register. Last year we had 12 U20’s and it would be great to see 20+.
Launching is easy. We ramp launched up the Cooper River at a nice park and it was an easy sail/motor down to the regatta site.
Last year most U20’s opted to share a slip or a “well”. Stan Jones is the Charleston Harbor Resort’s Marina Manager and can get you set up with slip arrangements.
Contact Emily Jones emilyojones@gmail.com if you have any questions, need further information or need to find crew.

There is a traitor among our ranks as I noticed today on the charleston scratch sheets. Can this be Jim?

Some people have two cars. Others have two boats.

That's actually a slightly sore point with me.
I had two very experienced sailors from my club race Scissors (50) in a local regatta last September. Nice guys. Have know both of them for a while. They had a good time racing Scissors and asked if they could race her in the fall series. I said ok and looked forward to mixing it up with them on the race course. Then they skipped the first race and the second and so on for the whole 8 race season. Neither has been on the boat since that first race in September.
I'd see the skipper occasionally and he told he was so excited that he was going to do Charleston Race Week on a U20. I had pretty much decided that he really hadn't earned the free charter for Charleston, until another club mentions Scissors is signed already signed up for CRW. The skipper hadn't bothered to to tell me that he registered the boat. He's not really on my good side right now.

The Bostons are bringing new sails for Scissors at Charleston. They'll be spending the weekend in my hotel room. :)

Steve,
The traitor I was speaking of was Mr. Pearson as he is on the scratch sheets in a melgi. Looks like I opened a can of worms. Are you implying that your other boat will not be sailing? I know of someone that may want to charter a boat for Charleston if any of you out there know of one available. I vouch for the guy and he owns ahenderson 30 so he knows the program.

My extra boat is what I discussed above. Pearson is sailing a Melges 20. (He's already registered.) He still has his U20 but wanted a second boat to travel in the winter so he's not really a traitor.

I’m considering coming out for Charleston, Is scissors available to charter? I’m also considering bring Juiced! Out and was looking for some help getting it from Charleston down to Pensacola. Any ideas on that? This may make the difference for me on these two regattas in pulling the boat out and back and then down to Pensacola for NA’s
What do you think?

I also have two boats, but only one I can drag south behind my car. Dragon Bait really wants to do both Charleston and Pensacola, but I have to wait a few more weeks to find out if I can.

There are 5 U20’s registered as of today, including one from Michigan!
You do not have to pay at the point of registration, but by signing up before Feb 1, you save $50.00 off of the entry fee. So register now and figure out the logistics later. For most of us in the SE, Charleston is an easy drive.

Yes, she is available now! My other charter just cancelled. I'm getting some lightly used used (one regatta) sails delivered at Charleston for 50. If you want to see them, look at first place boat in last year's U20 NA's.
-
Awesome, I'm very interested, let me get back with you after checking into some details.
-
So whats the scoop guys, are we going to get any more takers and if not will they allow us to race with six boats?

I thought this was one of the big events that we wanted to have a good showing from the fleet. Six boats in not what I would consider a good showing so where areal the east coast guys? I’m coming in from Denver and chartering #50 from Steve Rose and looking forward to an awesome weekend of racing so come on boys let’s dust off the boats and get out there. We should be seeing at least double digit numbers for this one.
