i can check with long beach and alamitos bay yacht clubs if they would like to host it in conjunction with long beach race week (lbrw). usually held at the end of june. i'de have to park the viper for this one. racing is held inside the breakwall in long beach harbor with similar conditions as pensacola but with more breeze (12-20 kts).

Tom Burden was also doing some work on Richmond Yacht Club (Septemberish?), but I have not heard anything for a few weeks.
U20's got some good play and the front page of Sailing Anarchy for the Bayview One Design Regatta.

I am pleased to announce that the Santa Cruz Yacht Club has agreed to host our 2013 Ultimate 20 North Americans, with three days of racing, September 20-22, on the beautiful California waters of Monterey Bay. SCYC is experienced in running major World Championship events for classes such as the 505, Melges 24 and others, including past Ultimate 20 North Americans. They have a comfortable clubhouse that has just been remodeled and expanded, complete with showers, full bar, excellent dining facilities and staff. Launching with dedicated hoist, plenty of rig-up storage for boats on trailers plus limited in-water temporary storage, Grand Banks 32 trawler race committee boat, and additional powerboats. If you’re interested in seeing the America’s Cup, it will be taking place about 75 miles away, beginning September 7th. Santa Cruz is a prime vacation spot, with fantastic beaches, redwood forests and great tourist amenities. In the summer months, winds are brisk, but the September/October period offers moderate conditions and reduced fog.
This regatta will be a return to the birthplace of the U20, plus the boats built by Moore, Santa Cruz, Express, Olsen and all the other “Fast Is Fun” classes that changed sailing. Monterey Bay is an incredible natural wonderland, where you can often see whales, dolphins, Orcas, sea otters, and a profusion of wildlife.
Formal proposal is pending to the U20 class. Details to follow.

If my Vintage Race schedule repeats next year with the same dates as this year, I will unfortunately miss the U20 NAs

We are working on firming up the proposal. So far the dates have not changed. Michael I hope your dates change and you can make it since it is much closer than the last 2 NA's for you. The finals for the 34th America's Cup will on at the same time. I am planning to take the week, see some of the action in San Francisco then make the short drive down to Santa Cruz. More information should be coming shortly.

SCYC has been very busy running an excellent Flying Dutchman Worlds, and we’ll be working out details and getting a website up for the U20 North Americans shortly. Beau Vrolick, the SCYC Regatta Chair, says they’re delighted to have the U20 fleet for the agreed-upon dates.
Was out watching the FD Worlds in my Laser on Saturday, and have been lurking about the harbor all week. The club has done a fantastic job of accommodating 49 boats, five or six containers of gear, and sailors from all over the world.
Racing has been first class. In Santa Cruz the wind shows up fairly reliably around noon. Racing usually goes from 1-4pm. Breeze has been about 8-18 knots. There have been surfable waves in the 3-5' size range. There are also large numbers of dolphins about this time of year.

The event is on the YRA Master Schedule, so it is a definite YES. Will ask for help as we get a little further into winter season. We’re needing to tie up the financial info and get SCYC to communicate this to the U20 class Board. Based on the quality of the Flying Dutchman Worlds, SCYC will do a great job. A website and more info shortly.

We are currently looking into other options as SCYC is not able to run our North Americans this year.

Who would go if it were to be held in long beach or San Diego during the summer? Would the Bay Area boats come south?

Where ever they go we need to keep the dates the same in my opinion. People have already booked vacation time and such.

What the class needs is a viable proposal. Please fill out the NA's form from the class website and email it to me or Gregg. I agree with Tac, due to the lateness of the scheduling many are already planning to use the September 20-22 dates and we and should try and accommodate those who already are planning to attend. We would like to keep this on the west coast this year, but without a proposal we might have to look at other alternatives.

As discussed with the board, we are setting a March 1st deadline for proposals. I have submitted a proposal from Racine Yacht Club in Racine, Wisconsin for the same dates. Sept. 19-22. We would like to keep it in the West Coast. So left coasters, lets go!

If we did Park City can we make at a time when we can do a Sail/Ski regatta combo? :)
If so then you have my vote, my Caribbean crew might hate me but maybe one day they "man" up and like the cold :)

Not usually. But we had an excellent regatta there last fall. Great breeze (a little shifty) and the Park City Sailing Association did a fantastic race committee job. There is camping, cabins and condos right at the lake. Plenty of dining in Park City.
Might be nice. Of course we would need to pitch PCSA first. They are primarily a small boat club, but if we piggy back on their fall regatta it may work well.
They have hosted both the Laser Masters and Laser Districts.

My club's board voted unanimously to submit a proposal. It has been transmitted to Gregg and Mark for distribution to the board. RYC is proposing alternate dates (June 23, 24 and 25). It is feasible to do the original dates but the weather is not likely to be as good and water levels are lower at that point. There would still be plenty of room for sailing but the higher water levels are better.

My club DRYC will also be submitting a proposal for the middle of September. The weather is usually 75 deg, and the wind is a very consistent & steady 10-14 at that time of year. After my preliminary discussions with the board, I think the class will be very pleased with the offer

I e-mailed Chris Chambers and he indicated Bob Aman was working with Eugene Yacht Club on a proposal and Chris is working on a Seattle venue. It looks like the class will have several viable proposals to choose from so that is major progress from two weeks ago.

Eugene Yachtclub (Fern Ridge) is a great venue. Great club. Would love to go there again.
Mark, since we would have to talk Geoff into it in 1 week before submitting, I think I'll wait until it circles back around. Call or e-mail me if you want to give it a go for this year. I will be happy to help.
