Hi All, the U20 was designed initially to be fitted with an optional kelp stick. This consisted of a UHMW fork which rides down the leading edge of the keel attached to a ¼” rod which runs up through the delrin keel guide and operates by pushing the rod down until the fork reaches the leading edge of the bulb thus clearing the keel. Does anyone have any experience with this installation or ever seen the installation? Please let me know of any knowledge of this installation.
Thanks, Don Corey 704-622-2828 cell antics@bellsouth.net

Don,
I could have used it a few weeks ago in the 53 mile North Channel Race as we pulled about 10 pounds of weeds off lifting the boat when we were done. If we hear anything I have some serious interest.

Don,
I am sure that Schock will have a way to integrate this with the U20 as it is built today.
Run that question past them.

I'm making the keel plates for the new boats right now. I'm digitizing the drawing for the CNC tomorrow. The original plans from 1994 show the spot to drill the hole for the kelp stick. I'll call Schock to see if they want me to add that hole to the keel plate. But don't the class rules say that a kelp stick is not legal without 3/4 majority vote? (Class Rules OD-V #13). Time is of the essence for me to know what to do here.

Michael,
Is the kelp stick something that is permenent or can it be taken out. The reason I ask is if it's in the rules I would like to use it for certian races where it is not one design. Also is there some way you can get me where to add the hole as I will be replacing my keel gasket this winter and could at least add the hole with the intent of having some type of plug if the stick can be removed.

Old thread I know, but did anything come from this? Has anyone done an afternarket mod?
