I'm curious to know if anyone else out there is hoisting/dousing between the shrouds and mast (instead of outside the shrouds). We picked this up from a Richmond YC clinic for getting the JUnior racers ready for the Sears Cup match racing in the U20's several years back, but haven't seen anyone else doing it.
Also, for those running a continuous sheet, what length and line type are you using. Looking to build a new set, and think a little longer would help with grabbing the lazy sheet on the douse.

Interesting, haven't tried it. Seems like there would be more for the chute to snag on going that route.

We tie a small line between the lower shrouds about 6' up and in front of the mast to keep it from wedging into the mast. We find it helps collapse the chute during takedowns and contains it. Also helps keep the shrimp net on the deck instead of out over the water.

Posted a poll on the yahoo group with this and a few other questions. Turns out about 25% of the voters do inside hoists, which was a surprise. Also was surprised that only 50% use continuous sheets. I'll never go back to independent sheets. Although early on, we shrimped and the sheet went under the bow. Tough to let something free when you can't get to the ends. It sort of hog tied us.

I get putting up but how do you take it done and keep the spin sheets outside the shrouds? Mike

Not sure i'm clear on your question, but you douse on the inside as well. By default, if the kite is flying correctly, everything will lead back correctly either way you douse (inside or outside). The one part that is a bit awkward compared to the standard takedown is you have to grab the lazy sheet from in front and inboard of the shrouds and bring it back for the douse. So, you have to go forward a bit first.
