Title: Scotty Bolt Threads pop loose... Best way to repair?

I had a scotty bolt thread pop loose...  I fixed it earlier this spring by reseting it with epoxy but it broke loose again in heavy conditions.  Suggestions?

I'll bite... What's a Scotty Bolt?  Is it one of nutserts that you screw the keel bolts into when fixing the keel in place?

Van,  Scotty bolts are the keel bolts that hold the keel in place.  The thread inserts are where the keel (scotty) bolts screw into.  A couple of mine have come loose and I am looking for a way to fix them more permanently.

Gregg I used 5200 before Bayfield and it has held up all summer.

We rebuilt the keel box last spring, at the same time we added two new inserts forward on the keel as we started with only two inserts.  BTW - Scotty bolts are a Canadian invention.

What does the nutsert look like (nut with a flange maybe?) and where can you get them?

I've never seen the keel detail. I'd like to install extras in Stella as we'll be beating around the Bay most of the time.

Anyone have pics of this?

The threaded inserts that are embeded into the G10 in which the Scotties are screwed into are called a Keysert made by Fairchild Fasteners and distributed by Maryland Metrics phone 800-638-1830.  The part number for the new installation Keysert is 73056 with a 5/16-18 internal thread and a 7/16-14 external thread.  If you strip one out and want to replace with an oversized Keysert the part number is 73057 which has the 5/16-18 internal thread and a 1/2-13 external thread.  Both Keyserts require a special tool for installation.

If you're installing additional inserts, you must install G10 below the keelbox flange for the inserts to screw into.
