Where is the 2016 U20 North Americans going to be? Rotation dictates West Coast, so who is putting in a bid?
-
Any news on where and when? Trying to get our schedule sorted out for the next year and this is an important date to get out as soon as possible!

The 2016 North Americans will be held on San Francisco Bay on October 7-9, 2016. The host club will be the Richmond Yacht Club. Much more information to come.

The local committee is organized and is working hard to make the 2016 North Americans at the Richmond Yacht Club a memorable race experience and great event. As you are working on your sailing calendar for the year, be sure to reserve the Columbus Day weekend from October 7-9, 2016. Last year's PCCs provided a terrific example of our warm fall weather accompanied by winds between 8-15 (sometimes 20) knots and a race course with views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Del Olsen will be the PRO again this year and is looking forward to setting great courses. You will also be racing during fleet week when the Blue Angels are flying overhead.
We are working on getting some arrangements with local hotels. All activities will be at the recently renovated Club house with awesome views of the City and a great new bar. We will have on land activities and will provide opportunities for family members who aren't sailing to be on the water with the race committee.
A couple of things to think about:
1. If you can bring your boat, but are looking for crew, let us know. We have experienced crew here in the bay area and can put you in touch with them to commit to your boat. If you can't bring your boat, but would like to crew; let me know so we can put you on the list as well.
2. If you have any family members traveling with you that would like to be on the water; we will have opportunities for race committee assignments. Just keep us in mind as you plan your trip.
3. If you are interested in purchasing sails from Quantum sails (loft is next to the club), please let me know as they will offer a fleet discount depending upon the number of sails purchased. Will Paxton is working with the fleet to be sure that you get local knowledge as well as great sails delivered at your boat.
4. If you would like to either charter a boat, or have a boat to charter, please contact me so that I can put you in touch with possible owners interested in a charter. We expect to have one to three boats available, but arrangements will need to be made individually.
You can contact me at sfbaymike at yahoo dot com.
See you on the water.

I'll be working on the NORs this month so you can expect the registration to be up by mid-June at the latest. We are working on getting the sponsorships set up so that we know what our budget will be and can figure out the best deal for the registration.
In case any member has ideas on sponsorships, I have attached the sponsorship form. In addition, you can also download information on local accommodations.
The link to the web page for the 2016 NAs is here. It will be populated soon with more information on the regatta and the program.

For those not familiar with Richmond YC, I had the pleasure of visiting the club this past week (I live in Lake Norman, NC) and participating in their Wednesday night beer can races. Great facility!!! I was on the fence about going but after visiting and sailing there I was sold. I am going to do everything I can to make the trek out to Richmond for NAs this year.

We are just shy of 6 weeks from NAs. Time to start getting serious and get your boat registered. Mike Josselyn has worked really hard to plan this event and there is no reason he should be sweating turn-out 6 weeks from the regatta. He has a budget to make and people to answer to in his club for letting the "riff-raff" into the newly remodeled clubhouse. If you are planning to attend please get registered ASAP and show support for Mike's hard work.

For those registered and planning on coming, download the attached brochure. Print out on both sides and then use your origami skills to make a trifold brochure and you are set to go. More available at the event.
Warning: dates on this calendar are closer than they appear!

Hey Mike
Can I bring a RV and stay on site?
Cheers

Yes. There is a lot next to the club house where RVs can park. No power or hookups. It's fenced and accessible to the showers and heads at the club. Mike

If you want to save time on Thursday PM with boat and sail measurement, you can download the form on the web site under the U20 North Americans and have a fellow U20 owner go through the checklist and sign off. This is especially helpful with sail measurement as the loft is limited in size so there may be some wait. Do it with another owner before coming out and it will save you time.

I am gutted that I have had to bail as I cannot get find replacement crew. Life/Work changes got in the way of my crew for this event. I wish you all the best of luck out there, I was really looking forward to sailing against you all.
Cheers

San Francisco Bay delivered on perfect regatta conditions with three days of blue sky, warm temps, and wind conditions between 6 to 15 knots. Chris Chambers (Black Sheep) is the 2016 North American Champion. Mark Allen (Junta) finished second and Bob Comstock (Ultimate Antics) third. More stories and links to the photo page to come.

Great story! Thanks Mike Josselyn
