Title: Used Boats Sold Recently
Post by: Jay Harland on May 02, 2016, 06:35:00 PM
The website indicates that there are currently no U20s for sale in the Country?  Is that true.  If so, where are the new owners and are they going to race their boats?

well, I bought #20 (formerly Rosebud II) and actively race her on Lake Norman, NC.
Still looking to join some ODRs Up North during the summer but can find any.

I am one of the two posted in the classifieds looking for a boat.  #250 is available according to Don Corey but out of my price range.  I'm waiting to find the poor boat that is sitting under a cover and forgotten in someone's back yard.  I first raced on an U20 back in 1996 and said my next boat would be one. Meanwhile I will be prowling every sail club I can get to for that lost treasure.

I purchased #21.  I don't think it was ever listed on the site though... I am actively chasing other boats around the course on Lake Norman.  I am not sure I can call it racing yet.

#21 was posted on the the class site.  The owner decided to donate the boat.  That is how it ended up on auction.

OMG the damage to Hull #8 is horrifying.  A really good tarp costs about $150 and lasts 3-4 years.  That is $900 over the life of the boat and maybe $200 in line and bungy cords.  The boat would be worth about $20k if they had spent 20 hours total and a $1000 to buy a new tarp and put it on every 3-4 years.

makes no sense to me...

You are actually referring to #20 which was purchased by Joe Brase also at LNYC.  #21 is Might Mouse formerly owned by Richard Mayberry in North Carolina.

One of the owners here in Utah is selling a nice used boat.  We would like it to be raced and stay in the state.  So if you are interested in moving here, PM me and I'll give you his contact info.   8)

I agree with Jay, what a shame to see hull #8 in it's present condition.  Yes, a couple cheap tarps could have kept the boat halfway decent shape.  This one will take an owner knowledgeable in fiberglass and balsa core repair.

#250 will soon be on the class site classifieds.  I had planned on using it for my travel boat but have suspended future traveling events due to "been there, done that" for the past eighteen years.

Cheers,
Don Corey   #25 fore,  #250 for sale, #8 ate up

We bought #14 last fall, brought it home to Michigan from Ontario, and are PHRF racing every Wednesday at the Muskegon Yacht Club.

U20 hull #250 is now on the market listed on the class website.  It's the only new U20 available today and maybe for a while until the class gets the boat back in production at a heftier price than this.  Asking $39,000 but would consider serious offers........ Don Corey

One of the Abbott boats, 200 or 201, has left Bayview and went back to the owner that sold it in Canada showing what a great lttle boat we have. Great guy and I hope we all see him at some events as he is a past class champion.
