Title: Outboard Motor
Post by: rbahr41 on June 03, 2016, 04:39:58 PM
My 1995 3HP Nissan outboard has died.  What 4 stroke motor do people suggest?  How fast does it move the boat?

Thanks,

Bob Bahr

Long shaft will drag if it can't tilt far enough. Some places require the motor to be on the back.

If my older 2 stroke dies, I will replace it with the Honda BF2.3.  It will push the boat along at at-least 5 knots and is pretty light.

Anyone considered an electric motor? never worry about gas smell, and needed only when there is absolutely no wind. Otherwise, sailing is faster and more fun.

The Torqueedo looks awesome.  Hard to justify the price and the tradeoff in terms of range.

I have a Suzuki 2hp.  It works great in most conditions and stays pretty well out of the water (I remove it when racing).

Our 2.5HP Suzuki 4-stroke works well.  30 lbs or so. They run $775 new and about $450 used.
