Title: What motors can fit inside the aft cockpit compartment?

And, what kind of speed can you get with them? And how loud are they?

I live on a canal system and it's about 1.5 miles of no-wake before I can get to the lake so I need a motor that can push the boat 4 kts with 5 people on board.

When you're motoring at 4 kts is it obnoxiously loud such that you can't have a normal conversation?

Ideally the motor should fit in the aft cockpit compartment.

The new 3hp torqueedo with integrated battery is looking to be the ideal solution for my needs here - it's unfortunate how expensive they are. Not sure if it can fit in the aft cockpit compartment though.

I have a Mercury 3.5 hp on my boat. Don’t use it very often, but it either gets stowed in the cabin or I leave it mounted and tilted up. It’s not very loud and electric wouldn’t give me enough range if I’m in the ocean. Not much will fit in the little aft hatch.

Only the older small two strokes fit in the aft compartment.  The torqueedo might depending on the shaft length. 

I leave my Suzuki 2hp on the back when day sailing or club racing.  For O/D racing it goes in a bag over the keel.

I have had a Torquedo 2hp on my boat for the last couple years. It will push the boat fairly easily at 4 knots. It has an integrated GPS and can calculate range based on the current throttle setting. If you back it down under 3 the range goes up significantly. It is extremely quiet to run. No gas that always seem to leak and smell the boat up. I don't need to go far to get my boat our of it's slip, so I almost never use more that 10% of the capacity. If I needed to go further like you, I would be sure to have a spare battery.

Many of those torqeedo's can be disassembled to some degree.

If you really want to make sure it'll fit in that aft hatch, just grab an old cardboard box, glue, and a box cutter and make up a quick rough scale model. You can see if the model fits. Shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to get a pretty good idea.
