Title: Spinnaker pole sleeve bolt has broken out
Post by: John Wolfe on September 20, 2022, 06:10:14 PM
One of the bolts holding the foremost front of the spinnaker pole sleeve has managed to break the upper portion of the lip that holds the bolt.  See attached photo.  The photo is from outside the boat looking up under the pole.

I was thinking I would fill this broken off top piece with epoxy and fiber filler and then re-drill and tap the hole for the bolt.

Another thought I had is that I should move the foremost bolt aft an inch or so in order to use new material and skip filling the broken off top piece.

Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks!

I would give Craig Smith at Elkhorn Composites a call. He has the molds to make the pole sleeve ( called the snail) or could repair. He is also great for advice. He worked for Moore building the first 30 U20s. If you call Craig, leave a voice-mail if he doesn't answer and he is good about returning your call.
