Can the Ronstan rig adjustment handles be installed on an existing shroud or do they have to be added when the shroud is constructed?

they have to be put on when the shroud stud is out of the turnbuckle

The Ronstan rig adjustment handles do not fit the standard shroud adjuster without a little bit of modification. Years ago, Don Cory showed me how to add Ronstan handles to my standard shroud adjuster: 1) using aluminum strap, form a square that fits over the existing standard shroud adjuster, 2) place the aluminum square and Ronstan handle adjuster over the standard shroud adjuster, 3) apply vasaline to the stud thread and screw into the standard adjuster, 4) apply tape to the exposed thread, 5) apply epoxy to the shroud adjuster, aluminum square and Ronstan handle...let it soak in and cure, 6) remove stud from standard adjuster, cleaning off tape and vasaline, 7) install stud into standard shroud adjuster. Attached is a photo of what the final product looks like.

I had turnbuckle handles modified like this with a bit of aluminum bar on #159 when I bought it (mine didn't have any epoxy). When it came time to replace the rigging, I called Ronstan insisting I had their 1/4 turnbuckles with handles. The assured me no such part ever existed. After closer inspection, I realized they had been modified this way to use the larger handles.
When I upgraded, I swapped to 4mm Dyform, which you can use with a 5/16" turnbuckle. That allows you to use the proper handle and grip without modification. I've been very happy, and the adjustment handles now properly snap down around the turnbuckle body.
