Hi all. Any updated links on this. I've called 3 vendors and none have them.

Thx.

Marine Tex or its equivalent, are meant more as fillers and not as much of a bonding agent.  Stick with a good quality two part epoxy in a 3:1 or 5:1 mixing ratio with proper fillers.  Don't worry about what it looks like, worry about it performing.

U20 Boat Maintenance & Care / Minor Rudder repair
« Last post by Brian Mikiten on June 10, 2025, 02:11:32 AM »
Newbie to the class here. I have a spare rudder that has some leading and trailing edge chips and minor de-lamination. I was going to use white epoxy (West System) and sand and fair it back to original but wondered what the original construction was on this. It doesn't look like gelcoat because of the de-lamination and lack of surface bonding. It's only about 6" x 1" total wrapped around the edge. This is a backup but I'd like to get it repaired. TIA

I appreciate that. My new (to me) boat came with two and it wasn't clear that it was particularly useful except in very light air.

Hey Brian, I think with the older main sail cuts the kicker was helpful in the really light air to get rid of heavy boom syndrome.  Not a problem as of late.  It is a nice way to keep the boom from smacking the deck if it gets fumbled.

If you decide you want one, let me know!  I may no a guy with a used one. :)

We don't use them as the leech of the main needs to be loaded in order for the sail to best propel you.  Unless you just want to hold the boom up when your raising and lowering the main, there shouldn't be any need for it.
