U20 Boat Maintenance & Care / Dropped off the trailer.....
« Last post by CJ LaCour on October 20, 2025, 06:37:01 PM »
Not the call I expected to get Friday morning.....

Apparently in the process of doing some tree work a club volunteer moved my boat from its parking spot, hit another tree, and knocked it off its trailer. The keen eyed among you will notice the broken trailer strap on the bow, that had actually parted before this incident, and I had the replacement in my vehicle already; just hadn't installed it yet. That said, had that been attached I wonder if said person would've just snapped the rig.

So, Nationals on hold for me, unless I get on a different boat. The individual involved was appropriately apologetic and has offered to cover damages, which hopefully is just a very thorough and extensive bottom job and maybe some work on the keel trunk. I'm posting here because there's a lot of knowledge that could be gleaned, but fortunately there are some local people that are pretty knowledgeable.

All the changes passed by an overwhelming majority.  Thank you to everyone who participated in discussing the changes and worked on the document!

My official post.  We have not all got on a scale but I know I haven't done my part! :) .  We might be a tad over by race day.   I am sailing with the usual suspects so no attempt to load up the boat.  We are flying in so appreciate the advanced consideration.   Thanks

U20 General Discussion / Re: Running Main Halyard to the cockpit

One nice think about the ball and hook is that you know you are at full height and it doesn't stretch with the wire.

Others have gone to a dyneema setup with a clutch or other cleat on the mast.  The carbon masts are setup this way.

If anyone has a few moments I would mind seeing pictures of how you run your main halyard to the cockpit.  Hoping to get rid on the ball/hook on the mast.

Thanks, Mike

U20 Boat Maintenance & Care / Stanchion repair/upgrade
« Last post by Claudio Brasca on October 15, 2025, 06:55:29 PM »
Boat #24 has the old style stern stanchions with low profile and only two vertical members. The flexing has broken one of the welds and we would like to strengthen each stanchion with a third vertical member (like in design on newer boats). Any suggestions for where to go for repairs / modification or to get a new pair manufactured? Many thanks for your help. I promise to keep the group updated.

Travis Gregory recommended https://railmakers.com/ who was one of the OEM. I would like to get a couple more quotes.

U20 General Discussion / Re: U20 Class Member Webinars

Hi CJ,
I would defer this question to Steve as much of the content in these are his.  I know some of them already are on YouTube.

Are you having trouble with access?  Thanks
There are several of them on YT. I subscribe to YT Premium so I get to skip ads, and an added benefit is I can download videos to my iPad for later reference offline. Since I'm regularly spending time in the back of an airplane, this is helpful to me.

That said, once a video is playing in the browser looks like you can download it to ones local device already, so problem solved for me. May help someone else though.....

U20 Regattas - Where, When & Who's Going! / 2026 Western PCC Venue
« Last post by Travis Gregory on October 11, 2025, 04:46:16 PM »
All, we will announce the 2026 championship location at the upcoming class meeting on 10/29.  The west coast district chairs are entertaining locations for PCC's.  Preferably in the spring or summer as NA's will be in the fall.

Ideally we find a location in the mid west that is potentially a draw for boats in Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Utah, Nevada etc.

If you have a suggestion where there will be a concentration of boats, it is welcome!

Thanks

There are over 20 boats registered. We are hoping to get to 30 for the 30th anniversary!  Charter's are available if you are interested.  Please reach out to the organizers with questions.
