Delrin Keel Slide(s) Replacement
« on: April 02, 2011, 01:34:56 AM »
I am replacing the Delrin slides on my keel and I'm looking for some helpful tips or lessons-learned from those out there that replaced theirs in the past.

When removing the old slides I found that a number of the old bolts were either bent or were broken off inside. What has been other's experience in re-threading or using metallic threaded inserts on the bolt holes?

 Some initial questions I have:

1. Are the bolt holes common for both slides? One of the holes in my keel goes from one side to the other.
2. The bolts are 1/4" diameter but what length?
3. Was the keel's composite material originally tapped or were threaded inserts used?
4. I need to trim the slides purchased in order for the holes to line up. Does the top of the slide butt up against the aluminum plate or is a gap left for some form of gasket?
