HP Regatta- Blatant local regatta promotion
« on: April 14, 2011, 08:55:10 PM »
I would like to formally invite boats to my club's local Regatta- the Howard Prairie Regatta.  Typical Regatta weather is beautiful with highs in the low 90's and water temps in the low 70's all with consistent 8kt-14kt winds.  We typically get in five races and several of them are reasonably long. (I believe Tom Burden has sailed our Regatta and can vouch for the conditions - Tom?)

Here is a link to our club's website and the Regatta information will be posted soon:

Bob Aman (Rogue #71) and Jake Cartwright (UFO #27) have expressed interest in racing our regatta.  If a few of the NorCal boats would commit I think we would have some good one-design.  We are just six hours from SF Bay.

Camping is gorgeous right on the lake and is only $18-29.  There are other good accommodation options as well.  The Regatta Dinner is cheap ($10 each).  We do a complementary 8 gal micro-brew keg on Saturday Night.  The entry fee is cheap (I think $45 bucks last year).  Wet moorage around the regatta can usually be arranged without much hassle.

I have a couple people in our club that are thinking about switching boats and I am always selling the U20.  If we had some OD at our regatta, then I think I could get a couple converts over next winter to get a couple of those used boats off the market.

In know, but I will be at Huntington too (a 8.5 hour drive for us)...and this year there is a  week in between.  Last year Madison did two NorCal regattas back-to-back weekends.

Howard Prairie is a really nice lake that compares with Huntington, and it is only a half hour up the hill from Ashland and the culture (Shakespeare) there. Really clean water, pretty reliable wind, great scenery. I sailed the El Toro NAs there a couple times and remember seeing bald eagles in the trees. Wish I had more vacation time!

Thanks for the plug Tom.  Maybe West Marine needs some high alpine lake product pics for the catalogue.  We have actually had bald eagles pluck fish out of the lake right in front of the boat (like 40 feet away) - pretty cool and some crazy physics to think about.
