Mallory Cup
« on: April 17, 2011, 02:45:40 AM »
The Ultimate 20 class has a lot to celebrate this year. The U20 has been chosen for the US Men’s keelboat championship. The Mallory Cup is an elimination ladder event with the finals being sailed at Lake Norman, NC. This event is designed to generate a champion of sailing with the competitors switching boats between races. The Ultimate 20 is a clear choice since the boat has proven itself as an excellent match racer featured in last years Detroit Cup. Past Champions of the Mallory Cup include such legends as Buddy Melges, Dave Ullman, George O’Day and Fred Hood.

Each of the 12 US Sailing areas are eligible to hold a regional event with the winner advancing to the final’s at Lake Norman. Currently there are 3 regional events lined planned. Area A&B in New England, August 7 & 8 at Indian Harbor YC, Area F in Colorado May, 21, 22 at Cherry Creek Reservoir, and Area D at Charleston YC, Charleston SC, July 8-10.

If your area is interested in holding a qualifier you can register your event with US Sailing here; http://www.ussailing.org/championships/eliminations.asp?championshipid=1

Sign up now for your event so we can showcase the boat and showcase our class.
Please contact me if you have any questions on how to promote your event.

Just an update.  I have been in contact with several of the area reps to promote the U20 and get our sailors involved in the Mallory Cup. We have the eliminations just over 2 weeks away here in Denver and it should be a great event! I have been in contact with the area G rep to make the High Sierra regatta the Area G eliminations in Ultimate 20's and Richard Hunt is contacting the Area E rep about making the Detroit NOOD the Area E eliminations. I hope we can drive participation at these events and get some of our great sailors involved for a chance at the title. One of these events plus the NA's in Holland MI should definately be on your schedule.

Great job Richard. I hope this will drive participation for the event and get all those Bayview boats on the water.
