The Gulf Yachting Association (GYA) held a replacement boat demo this weekend hosted by the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans. Eight of the fifteen boats under consideration showed up to demo rigging and sailing their boats with the selection committee being able to sail on all the boats. The U20 showed well and made a good impression with a big thanks to Tim Dunton and Billy Ellis for their efforts in making it all happen. Tim towed the boat from LA (lower Alabama) for the demo and manned the boat for the selection committee members to be able to sail on our great boat. Billy helped us with the set-up demo which took the three of us less than 15 minutes from rolling into a regatta mode to ready to splash the boat, sure, we all do it that efficiently. WD Schock delivered hull #250 to the show which we used on shore in as a static display, a nice shinny clean and new U20.
So now, will the U20 be selected to replace the Flying Scot as the GYA Capdeville series boat? Time will tell, maybe next year we will know. With 33 GYA member clubs this could be a huge boost to our fleet presence in the gulf coast region if we were to be selected. Tim and Billy did their part this weekend, THANKS guys!!!!! Others could help the effort by attending a regatta or two in the region.
