Mast base breakage
« on: September 29, 2019, 09:57:00 PM »
Unfortunately I ended the season with a oh crap moment. I was getting ready to lower the mast. I was holding the spin halyard at the stern of the boat, removed the rear pin from the mast base and was moving lower shrouds forward when the mast broke out of the mast base and came crashing down breaking the mast in two. The only thing I can think of that I did different from the other times I have taken it down is I removed the headstay before lowering the mast. My question is has this happened to anyone else and where can I buy a new or fairly new mast? Help

Try Bayview Yacht Club for a used mast. There were earlier discussions on the forum that they replaced their fleet boat rigs with carbon and may be selling the aluminum ones.

The class is working on purchasing all the masts so there would be spares for the members. Contact Chris Chambers for details.
