Pensacola Feb 4-6
« on: October 20, 2010, 05:15:32 PM »
I was told the Flying Tigers will be having a three day one design regatta Feb 4-6. It was suggested PYC would love to host another class like the U20. It would cost a hell of a lot less than St Pete and they have been willing to store boats at no charge for those who want leave their boat before moving south for the Nood. Any interest? Also I am working with PYC to make a proposal to hold the North Americans in 2012. What a great chance to come test the waters.

Last year we had a race in January at St.Petes, February it was the Nood and March was Lake Norman. Two races in Florida appeared to reduce numbers as some chose January and skipped Nood or the opposite. Perhaps only one race in January or February is all people feel they can afford. Lake Norman did not appear to get hurt because of there local presence. Less Regattas with better attendance may be better than to many regattas poorly attended. I am not apposed to Pensacola but perhaps it should be discussed at Lake Murray with the boats that will Travel and get a consensus.

We need to get some feedback from the fleet on winter racing. Who is planning to travel and where do they want to travel to? Currently we have the following possibilities. Several dates in Pensacola, The St Pete 1D, The St Pete NOODS, Lake Norman, and Charleston.  Pensacola has some advantages as far as convienence and cost.

According to St. Pete website the one design regatta is not happening in January. I would prefer Nood but realize some do not like launch and haul out hassles there. That said, If Pensacola is the preference, I will try to attend. At present Lake Norman and Charelston are not in my plans, but I am not sure if Brad will take boat.

My schedule conflict for March 4-6 has been resolved. If the enough boats are interested in Racing Pensacola for a three day event I will contact PYC and see if they can accommodate us with the Flying Tiger Fleet. This might be a nice way to conclude florida racing for the season. Charlotte Harbor, Nood, Pensacola and then off to Lake Norman, Columbia and finally Charleston.
