Sell the boat!
« on: August 13, 2010, 10:06:26 PM »
A huge thanks goes out to Don Corey and the excecutive board for all their hard work securing the future of the Ultimate 20. It was great to hear at the annual meeting we now have a deliverable boat. Customers who put down a deposit can receive a brand spanking new boat in around 3 months time!

Our job now is to go out and sell boats. There has been good chatter on the Sailing Anarchy forums lately about the U20 from the NA's and we can ride the momentum. Please keep posting on all the forums about upcoming races and results. Feed what you can to Gregg so he can get it up on the website so we have new and interesting reading and pictures. The U20 has a stronger coast to coast one design sailing scene than the other popular 20 foot sportboats and I would like to keep that in front of potential buyers. It can be the dual purpose boat, both family daysailing and racing the others can't offer. Along with it's great group of sailors that are helpful and competetive I can't think of a better class to sail in.

Talk the boat up in your local fleet. Take gawkers out for a sail. The class members now have the duty to get new orders and continue to grow the class.

Mark,

I think your post is very timely and I have just been thinking about this issue.  I am wondering if the board has considered ways to raise some marketing funds for sales purposes?  We have the "Audi Melges 20" as a competing boat for example.  Can we find a class sponsor like Audi?  How about the You-tube U-20? :)

I think this needs to be the next phase of the class efforts and would be interested in getting some input going?

PS
I do not even know what IRS code the class is organized under? and this effects how we are allowed to generate revenue?

Where can I point people for details on who's building the boat, pricing, etc. in brochure type form? Something that looks solid?

As part of our "sell the boat campaign" the best way to sell the boat is to recruit current boat owners to travel to regattas. This year the East Coast Championship will be held at Lake Murray SC. This is a new venue for the U20 and can expose a whole new group of people to the U20. The message boat is great but taking tim eto make personal contact is better.  If you are coming take a minute and recruit 2 more boats from your area to came as well. Lets get those inactive boats sailing again!

Want to build a fleet..... Many used boats for sale on the class website.....7 to be exact... 1 new..... 6 used.... not good to sell new boats with so many available.

Sell these boats... One Design in your area!  Think about it!
