Dauphin Island Race
« on: January 09, 2012, 12:07:39 AM »
Fairhope Yacht Club will be hosting the Dauphin Island Race This Year. Dauphin Island is one of the oldest and best attended point to point races in the US. Typical attendance is in the hundreds. Although not the 450+ boats we saw in the hey day we still see in excess of 200 - 300 boats. The race is 18 miles and runs from Upper Mobile Bay to Dauphin Island. Most boats raft up on the Island for one of the best parties around. There is a campground on the Island and numerous beach houses for rent. There is a return race on Sunday. They will provide a 1 design class if desired. Not your typical 1D regatta but one hell of a lotta fun. I will be happy to move boats to Pensacola from Fairhope for anyone wanting to do both. Another option would be to drive down, fly home, fly back for the NAs then drive home.
