Racing PHRF

I am sailing mostly PHRF nowadays. Using an older Ullman main. Its seen better days.

I have a carbon mast. Want to order another main to use in our local phrf fleet that optimizes the properties of the new mast. What are you guys using in mixed fleets?? Anybody sailing phrf in non-ODR configuration??

I ordered a Dacron main from Boston to fit the carbon mast.At the NA's I was going up wind like a bat out of hell most of the time. Unfortunately fast does not always overcome dumb.  At the meeting we talked a little about composite sail. Tac mentioned that compositesails would break more mast. I can only assume he was referring to the tin rig and the fact the composite sail would transfer more energy to the mast (and there for the boat). So their shape is fast on the rig and composite would be even faster. Call them and see what they say.o

Chuck - we sail mostly PHRF around here.  I use the class main and jib all the time and will simply run a larger chute.  Ullman cut a PHRF spin and also a code 0 for me a few years back.  The spin has a big belly and can get tough to get over the pole when it gets wet at the bottom in light air, but it is very helpful in keeping in check with the J80's ect.  The code 0 we use about once a year - but it never fails us when the stars line up.

Your (I) and (ISP) measurements are the same at 24.0. I have 26.1 for my (I) and 28.6 for my (ISP). I got my numbers at phrfsocal.org from other certificates. We rate 138 here, I think I like your 159!
I just needed the lp measurement to complete my app. 13.3 seems long for the class jib with only a 7foot j measurement. Maybe tac or brad can verify this??   Thanks again Glenn

Glenn,  I just measured an old Ullman jib and it's LP is 7'- 7 1/4".

Well, after last years debacle with phrf and del Rey yacht club, we finally got a valid phrf rating of 138. Boats name is now Looney Tunes.    That's all folks!

I was notified my rating in phrf here on lake hartwell is 146 this year in OD mode.

Any thought??

146 is not a valid number. It goes in increments of 3 secs per mile. 138 141 144 147 150 etc
