Great sailing for a great cause!
« on: September 15, 2020, 09:14:42 AM »
The 20th Annual Hospice Regatta was held at Lake Norman Yacht Club this past weekend.  The Ultimate 20 Class was in full force with 11 boats on the line for windy and wet conditions.  A rare North Easterly piped in with 8-12 knots of breeze and a constant drizzle for the first few hours in the morning yet cleared enough to allow 5 full races on Saturday for a nice fall-like sailing day.  The oldest, yet newest boat to the fleet, Steve Shaw’s 20/20 led after taking 4 bullets and a 2nd.  Scott Olson at the helm of No Soup For You was the only kryptonite for 20/20 on Saturday.

Sunday’s early start time allowed for only 1 race to be sailed before the breeze tapped out for the day.  Again, 20/20 found a way to the front and posted a bullet in the regattas final race.  The race for second was extremely tight with BJ Jones, Scott Olson and Ken Corsig only separated by 1 point each.

Once ashore, sailors had ample time to compare notes and have an informal, socially distanced awards ceremony where Shaw’s name was pulled from a hat of race winners and chosen to be the area representative in the National Hospice Regatta Alliance Championship in 2021.
