What are all these blocks for??
« on: November 15, 2020, 09:35:38 PM »
U20 #6 rescued from SoCal and resting comfortably in her new home in AZ.   Rebed deck hardware, filled all the divots, and painted mast and deck.  Still need to buff and wax hull.

Put the mast up for the first time today.  Finally understand the forestay/Jib Halyard thing - I think.  Put together what I figure is the cunningham and vang. Ran new continuous sheets for the jib and spinnaker and cut a few feet long for testing on the water (cannot un-cut you know).  Ran the pole launch line, spin tack, furler - mostly new lines except for the main halyard.

Question - Attached is what I think is the smart pig and the vang setup.

Here are pics of what I have left in the basket.  They look like a vang and a cunningham.  Perhaps in stead of the mast based cheekblocks?

Item on the left looks like a close to stock Cunningham setup.  You are correct that the blocks on the mast are not stock.

Someone with an earlier hull should comment on your vang, it looks like it could be right as you don't have a deck mounted swivel cleat like the newer boats.

Maybe someone who is still sailing this year can post some photos.  The pictures in the manual aren't close-up enough.

Here’s what my Vang and Cunningham look like, I was in the same situation trying to figure out where everything went until the Ditch run where I was able to see another U20 set up. Let me know if you need anymore photos👍🏻

I did switch out a block to the Vang to increase the purchase, I’ll take a photo next time I’m at my boat.

I think the blocks on the right may be a fine tune for the mainsheet?   I did not find a line that would suffice for a main.. so that makes sense.

Pictures below are examples of mainsheet fine tune - not in my U20

Wow! Lots of stuff I’ve never seen...backstay, kick up rudder, and a winch for the spin sheets? If you need I can take detailed photos of my boat and send them over to you. I thought I’d be sailing this week, but not much wind.

Detailed pics of the mast base, boom controls, cockpit hardware, and cleats on cabin top would be great.

Not be a downer, but some of those things are not allowed via our class rules.  If you want to race one design you would need to remove or change some of the rigging.

The pictures of the fine tune is from a boat like a j80 or other big fella, not Uff Da!..  just for illustration of the fine tune I think accounts for the extra blocks.

To be clear.. Uff Da! does not have a backstay or winches, and is completely class legal.
