2021 Carolina Keelboat One-design Regatta (CKOD) - 11/13 - 11/14
« on: September 28, 2021, 06:46:24 PM »
This year's edition is going to be held Nov. 13-14.  Looks like we will have some out of town teams attending this year and we now have more than 15 U20s on Lake Norman.  We are hoping for 20 boats on the line.  The wind is usually good in November and the competition couldn't be better.  Keep an eye out for the NOR as we get closer to the event.

For those in the north you are welcome to leave your boat at the club and come back for the mid-winters in March.

Lake Norman Yacht Club hosted the 31st Annual Carolina Keelboat One Design (CKOD) regatta on November 13, 14 in Chamber of Commerce day conditions. Nearly 40 boats were in attendance. Ultimate 20 Fleet #2 has grown in recent months and now has 20 boats on the mailing list, 13 of which were on the start line to present the largest fleet this year. Sailors were met with a fairly typical fall day on Lake Norman with brisk morning temperatures, great breeze and no powerboat chop! PRO Ken Gorni made it known to sailors during the competitors meeting that they should be ready to be on the water until 4:30p to take advantage of great sailing weather. A total of 4 races were sailed for all classes with breeze in the 6-15 knot range. For the Ultimate 20 class, we had the benefit of starting after the J88’s, Seascape 24s and 11 VX Ones, providing a good opportunity to watch what was happening on the course with the sometimes tricky lake breeze. In the end, Steve Shaw (#20) and Tim Porter (#21) placed the fleet on notice by winning all 4 races between them and separating themselves by over 10 points to the 3rd place finisher Mark Aspland (#88). Full results for all fleets can be found here.

Our next Keelboat regatta is in mid-March, 2022.  Consider coming to race – we are anticipating 15+ U20’s on the line.
