The Fresno Yacht Club invites you to participate in the 2024 High Sierra Regatta and the 2024 Ultimate 20 North American Championship regatta at Huntington Lake, California.
High Sierra Regatta
This will be an excellent way to gain local knowledge and warm up your crew for the big event. We aim to continue the tradition of competitive high alpine lake sailing that was started 71 years ago. Fleets that have been sailing for decades and those that just formed this past decade are welcome. Formally, we would like to extend an invitation to these fleets on the following weekends - but let us know if you think others would be interested:
Weekend 1 - July 13/14
• Moth, Snipe, Day Sailer A and B, Lido 14 A and B, Laser, Laser Radial, Banshee, RS Aero, RS Toura, Optimist A and B, Melges 14, Vanguard 15. San Juan 21, International 14, Open Centerboard (Portsmouth Rating)
Weekend 2 - July 20/21
• PHRF, Ultimate 20 One Design, Catalina 22, Victory 21, Wyle Wabbit, Thistle, Melges 15, Moore 24, Coronado 15, Sport Boats (J70, Viper 640, Open 5.70, Melges 20)
The regatta format will be similar as in past years. A minimum of 5 entries (pre-registered on the Friday one week before the start of the regatta) are required for a one-design class. For each weekend, there will be 5 races over two days (3 Saturday, 2 Sunday). We plan on a social event at the beach Friday evening during check-in and a regatta dinner Saturday night. Further details and registration will be posted in Regatta Network in coming months.
2024 Ultimate 20 North American Championship Regatta July 22, 23 & 24
This is the big 2024 event for the Ultimate 20 One Design class. The regatta will start with a skippers meeting at 9:00 A.M. Monday morning July 22. We currently anticipate a 7 race series with a throw out.
Accommodations
These past few years lodging and camping spots have been a challenge at the lake. While the USFS is making efforts to re-open sites that have been closed, we do anticipate not all campgrounds will be open. Starting January 1, many of the July camping sites are becoming available on recreation.gov - 6 months prior to stay. Book early to secure your spot!
There are other options which include the lodge at China Peak Ski resort and Cabins and camp/RV sites at Lakeshore Resort. There is also some “rustic cabin” lodging at Huntington Lake Resort. There are a few Condo and home rentals in the area also. The areas around the lake that would be good choices are Lakeshore, Tamerak lodge (aka Flintridge Rd.) and Huntington Lake Condominiums
