Potential Jib Sail Material Rule Change
« on: November 03, 2026, 03:10:46 AM »
Class members,

At the class meeting on November 4th  we will discuss the proposal to change the jib sail material restriction.  Our intent Wednesday is to discuss the attached rule change and provide perspectives from several sailmakers who will join our meeting to share their experiences and answer questions.

Following the meeting a ballot will be issued to the class for a vote on the proposal per the class rules.

Feel free to post any questions you may have in advance here. We will do our best to attempt to answer them on the 4th.

Thanks

Thanks for all the effort that went into to researching this proposal. However I feel that the simplicity is the key to the popularity and longevity of the class. This change would dilute the strict standards the class has enjoyed. I don’t feel it will make the racing and sailing the boat any better.

Thanks

Travis: I am sorry I could not attend the class meeting. What was the decision on the jib specs? Thank you.

I was not able to make the call either, however In the past we had to vote via a link before class changes were made.

I would still like to see a recording of the meeting, waiting to see if that is available.

"Amendments approved by the Executive Board as provided in Paragraph 2 of this Article shall then
be submitted to the membership, and, to be adopted, must be approved by the vote of not less than
two-thirds of the Active Members in good standing voting thereon.  Notice of any such proposed
amendment, together with a ballot to be used for the purpose of voting thereon, shall be sent by
mail, email or fax to Active Members at their last known addresses as shown in the records of the
Executive Secretary.  Such notice shall specify the date, which shall be not less than 30 days from
the date of mailing of such notice, on which the vote will be tallied, and ballots received subsequent
to the date so specified may be disregarded. "

So I presume the content was presented and we will be asked to vote at some future date.

There will be a ballot sent out to all members shortly to vote to either approve or reject the proposed change in the rules. It was not voted on during the meeting. I am not sure if they can make the recording available. I wanted to use this thread to help with the debate before the vote.
