I have great news for the U20 community! Randy and Lisa Shelton of “Colorado Coconuts” have agreed to produce a video (DVD format) of the 2010 NA's.
The quality of work that they generate is exceptional and this will be a DVD you will want for your collection. This will not just be footage of boats sailing around the course, the intent is to make the DVD educational as well as entertaining. Let me share with you some of what you can expect to see on this DVD.
First, they will operate from a chase boat so that footage can be obtained from anywhere on the race course. You can expect to see detailed coverage of the top teams tacking, jibing, setting and dousing the spinner and rounding marks. If you want to know how the best U20 racers do things, this is your opportunity to have a visual record of these racers in action.
Of course, Lake Dillon usually provides opportunities for crash footage as well as some of the most beautiful scenery you'll find at any regatta anywhere.
Racers' interviews are planned and there will be coverage of post-race briefings and other on-shore events. The briefings should provide good insight into how the top racers set up their boat and how they deal with the varying conditions to maximize boat speed.
Randy also has said that he will be glad to go aboard a U20, either before or after racing one day, to get some footage from the skipper and crew point of view. Any volunteers to take Randy sailing?
Randy and Lisa do not make their living by producing videos; they need to make a living on their day jobs like the rest of us. For them to take the time off of work and to produce this video will be quite expensive. To help recover some of these costs the video will be sold for $35 (shipping included to US and Canada) to anyone who commits to buying one prior to July 15 and pays for it before the end of the NA's. If you wait until after July 15, the price will be $40. Randy has agreed that any skipper buying a video can buy additional videos for the crew for only $20 (limited to number of crew on board and must be shipped to same address at the same time as the skippers's video) After July 15 the crew videos go up to $30. This is a great bargain for what will most likely be the finest U20 video ever made. Randy may also offer discounts for additional videos for family & friends.
