I am pleased to announce that the Santa Cruz Yacht Club has agreed to host our 2013 Ultimate 20 North Americans, with three days of racing, September 20-22, on the beautiful California waters of Monterey Bay. SCYC is experienced in running major World Championship events for classes such as the 505, Melges 24 and others, including past Ultimate 20 North Americans. They have a comfortable clubhouse that has just been remodeled and expanded, complete with showers, full bar, excellent dining facilities and staff. Launching with dedicated hoist, plenty of rig-up storage for boats on trailers plus limited in-water temporary storage, Grand Banks 32 trawler race committee boat, and additional powerboats. See

If you’re interested in seeing the America’s Cup, it will be taking place about 75 miles away, beginning September 7th. Santa Cruz is a prime vacation spot, with fantastic beaches, redwood forests and great tourist amenities. In the summer months, winds are brisk, but the September/October period offers moderate conditions and reduced fog.
This regatta will be a return to the birthplace of the U20, plus the boats built by Moore, Santa Cruz, Express, Olsen and all the other “Fast Is Fun” classes that changed sailing. Monterey Bay is an incredible natural wonderland, where you can often see whales, dolphins, Orcas, sea otters, and a profusion of wildlife.
Formal proposal is pending to the U20 class. Details to follow.
