Jay,
We are in the process of pricing the mast. Most likely will be aluminum with a carbon option. You have the choice of Doyle Boston, Ullman or Glaser.

Why restrict the choice of sail makers?  Quote the new Ultimate 20 without sails.

We are not restricting the choice of sailmakers. We do not have quotes from every manufacturer. If there is a particular loft a potential buyer prefers it is open to negotiation. If you wanted to buy the boat without sails, that is fine too. Same if you wanted a different brand of trailer, or no trailer. We can accommodate the request.

We do want to be able to deliver a complete boat. When you buy a U20 you are ready to go sailing. All you need is water.

I can think of nothing better than being able to advertise that you can buy the boat go pick it up and drive down to the nearest lake and go sailing. The time and effort it took to get my to used boat up speed to go sailing was brutal. Nothing worse than having a new toy and not being able to go out and play. Mark, I think it's great that we will be able to offer whatever the purchaser would like. Just my 2 cents.

This is great news!  I remember walking Alex thru the boat when the class showed it at the Oakland boat show and also Drew Harper talking with Alex there so I'd like to think that having our class into more boat shows will help.  now that we have a builder we can really show off the potential for growth in the class.
It all started with Greg taking the initiative and risk to have the class buy the molds. Great work, Mark, Greg, Don, and Drew for all you are doing.

I would suggest updating the class website to let people know the news.  We should update the boat page to provide a link information on acquiring a new boat.

When will the first boat be ready? Would it be wise to show it next to a older boat for comparison purposes. Schock boats is about an hour away, you think they'll let me take pics?

I have admired these little gems from afar for decades.  I had one within my grasp and lost it to a quick acting sailor.  I read the press release and didn't see anything about a carbon mast, as questioned by a member/owner.  Is the mast going to be carbon or was that wishful thinking?  It would certainly help righting moment but increase base price cost as well.  Gary White Michigan

Gary,

It looks like the boat will be offered with the carbon as an option.  My experience is that the aluminum is competitive with the carbon rig from a performance standpoint but carbon adds a margin of safety in big breeze.

If I were ordering new I would do the upcharge to the carbon stick to add the safety margin as long as it is a reasonable upcharge.

Jay is right. The boat is offered with the Aluminum mast. C-tech makes an approved carbon mast for the class that would be an option for the boat. We are in the process of sourcing a US built carbon mast. We are waiting on pricing.

Glenn - Don Corey brought his traveling boat (#159) out to California and it currently is in Schock's shop for comparison.
