Boom brake/preventer
« on: February 05, 2014, 02:53:44 AM »
I'm considering the Wichard Boom Brake for a little peace of mind while sailing with the kids on board. They (and I) get a little nervous with the chute up, especially while they're driving down wind. Does anyone have any experience with this product on a U20 or similar sized rig to give me a thumbs up or down. It's not a huge investment but if it's not worth the $285 at West Marine, it's basically a throw away. I've rigged simple preventers using a dockline but was looking for something slick and easy. The demo video's make it seem pretty effective but it's hard to judge how it would perform on a U20 rig.
