2015 Ultimate 20 North Americans
« on: October 05, 2014, 04:02:07 PM »
In the standard rotation, the NA's should be in the East this coming year...... I haven't heard of any bids yet... The earlier that we know, the better the attendance as people can plan vacation time.

Let's get the ball rolling.... Who is up for hosting the NA's in 2015?

I thought that Steve Rose was getting sorted out to have the event at his club?  I do agree that we need the dates ASAP!

I know Pensacola Yacht Club would love to host the event again. Dave Oerting will be the Fleet Capt in 2015. He is trying hard to promote the club's excellent facilities and beautiful sailing arena.

Hi Scott.

The only issue with Pensacola is timing. Last time we were there was in May and i think people felt that was too early for a North Americans. July-Nov is hurricane season. Sept-Oct could be ok, but what is the breeze like?

When the cycle comes around to the gulf again sailing in October is pretty much the same here as anywhere else. It is pretty dependent on frontal movement. The only months that I would absolutely not recommend are August and September.  June and July offer a pretty consistent pattern but you really need to hold off until the afternoon sea breeze kicks in. This can actually be pretty nice as you don't have to kill yourself in the morning to get out. In fact by 4pm it is outright delightful.  The occasional Pm squalls can be a factor but as long as you are prepared it is no big deal. The peak hurricane season is mid August through September. June and July are peak tourist season so lodging is a little more expensive. The reason I pushed the NAs to May last time was to sail in the most pleasant conditions 1st which I define best opportunity for consistent wind, low humidity, low chance of thunderstorm. 2nd economical lodging. 3rd completely outside of hurricane season. From a pure sailing point of view I would say that late April early May is the best gradually diminishing until late July. It then picks up in mid September and peaks in early November.  I know Fairhope YC would love to host as well as Pensacola and I'm pretty sure Fort Walton would host as well. All three are excellent choices.

Sorry for delay. Billy E hit it right on the head. Summer's just too darn hot for a good regatta. On the water it's fine, but brutal at the dock. I think October is the best. No real threat of hurricanes, still warm, usually great breeze. That would be my vote.

Good day, are we any closer to where and when this will actually happen? We are into 2015 already and starting to get a bit late for planning no?

If the East Coast doesn't want it, we will be happy to host in SLC.   :o

I believe that Keith is working with Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit, MI to host in September.

Ok, sounds good Greg.  I was just checking to see if anyone reads this thing.  It's been kind of quite on this board for a while!

Any accommodation recommendations since that element of the website is not working?

Thanks
