PCC Venue and Dates

All west coast U20s- please answer the new poll on the forum for PCC venue and date options.  After considerable discussion with class leadership these two options are the leading candidates.  The poll allows you to select both options if either date/venue works for you.  The venue and date with the most interest is the one that will likely be selected.  If one date is good for your team and the other is possible not definite then answer "commit" for the date you know works and "may" for the date that is possible but not for sure.  If a day becomes definite you can change your vote.

This poll will run for 21 days starting February 18th and close on March 11th.  Class leadership will make a final selection and notify the class shortly after the poll closes.

Thank you Jay! Richmond sounds like fun - will advise and perhaps change from our current 'maybe' vote in October, after we see how the Big Daddy goes for us in a few weeks.

Here's my pitch for Richmond:

Beyond this PCC-
-The Great Pumpkin Regatta is Oct 24/25.  You can race one-design Sat and on Sun in phrf against 160+ boats in a pursuit race against some of the best sailors around.
-Midwinters begin the first Sun of the month starting in Dec.  Spend a day in SF and a day on the water once a month.
-Winter sailing in San Francisco is calmer and actually warmer than in the summer.  We already have a couple out-of-town boats that sail here for winter-only regattas.  Why not you?
- $120/mo gets you a dry dock spot and use of an electric cart to pull your boat to the crane.  No need to bring your truck. 
-Come for the PCC and leave your boat for the winter.

The organizers at Richmond Yacht Club are designing a regatta in the Fall for you. I have attached a flyer but more details will be forthcoming soon. Right now we are testing the waters to see what interest is out there and to expand the mailing list.
The Open 570 fleet are hosting their Nationals and sail on Monday Oct. 12th as well. That’s Columbus Day and if anyone else wants to sail, all the better.    Del Olson will be the PRO for the Regatta on the Southampton Course.

Dinner will be available for Friday and Saturday evening at the Club.

Looks like RYC sportboat event in October has won out on the voting and we would look to have 10 or more boats which would be good.  Mike Josselyn will provide periodic updates as the event nears.

I would also posit that the Fern Ridge interest was high enough that maybe that should be the venue in 2016, depending on where and when NA's will be next year as they return out west.

The other question is whether we want to sail Monday as well.  I would vote yes to that it is possible but I would want to hear from other boats.

Richmond will be a great venue - we are questionable on making this, but if we can make it, we would most likely be a Sat-Sun attendee.

The Richmond Yacht Club is pleased to invite the west coast U20 owners and crew to the Ultimate 20 Pacific Cup Championship and annual Sportboat Fest to be held on Columbus Day weekend, October 10-12.   An additional day of racing can be arranged for Monday if desired.   Del Olson, will the PRO for the event.  Del Olson is a International Canoe World Champion and current holder of the New York Cup, the oldest sailing trophy (yes older than the America's Cup), for his team's win during the International Canoe Championships held last year at RYC.  He has managed many other regattas and is the best you can get for race management.

U20s will have their own starts, but will share the windward/leeward course with 570s (which will be having their Nationals), J70s, and probably some Vipers.    All racing will be managed by an experienced team of starters, scorers, and a certified judge will be available for protests. 

Registration fees have not been set; but will be very reasonable and include trophies.   I will get out the registration information as soon as it becomes available.

The Club will have dinner for the participants on Friday nite and Saturday nite, with open bars on both nights.  While it will be under renovation, the Club will be open.

Boats must have a bridle for launching via a hoist.   Local boat owners can provide bridles if you do not have one.   Boats will have storage in the water for the entire event.

The San Francisco Fleet members welcome our out of town guests to this event and we will be making arrangements for a block of rooms at a local hotel for out of town skippers and crew.   Port Richmond is a historic town and lots of restaurants and bars.  West Marine also in Pt Richmond for last minute items.

More to come on this event and we look forward to hosting the PCCs and U20 participants.

We are working on the NORS and getting the web site up for the PCC in Oct at Richmond Yachr Club.  A question has come up as to interest in racing on Monday which is Columbus Day.  The 570s will be racing for their Nationals.   So it will not be any trouble for the Race Committee.   However traditionally the PCC have been two days.   Any thoughts from those who may be traveling from afar?

Also, we are including in the fee Saturday evening dinner at the Club for skipper and crew as it is easy for planning purposes, but let me know if any objections.  Family members of course will be welcome.

As part of the Richmond Yacht Club's Sport Boat Invitational, the U20 Class Association will be holding the Pacific Coast Championship on October 10-12.   It is promising to be a great event with racing on three days, a terrific Saturday nite dinner for skippers and crew, a special presentation by Jim Antrim the designer of our boat, and more to come.  If you are a veteran or haven't yet been to a PCC, it is great fun to get together with fellow U20 sailors and is well worth the travel.  Hope you can make it for some great racing on the Bay in what is the best time of year for the U20.

If you are attending the PCCs at the Richmond Yacht Club and have a non-sailing spouse, relative, or friend coming with you, they can watch the races on the water and also help with race committee on the committee boat.  It's a great opportunity to see how a race is run and how you are doing during race!  Let me know if you are interested.  Can be one, two,or all three days.  No experience necessary.
