Roller Furler top end + Spectra Halyard
« on: November 11, 2023, 12:43:39 AM »
Now that I’ve had two seasons on M&M (#127) I’m looking over some details from what I got when I bought her as she’s slung up in my shop.  First up, forestry and Halyard.

1.  I’ve attached a photo of the Forestay top end roller. It seems that there should be washers to eliminate “slop” at the upper. Without a bit more structure for the roller fuller to connect with that upper part of the forestry, it could be off-center when retrieving, and/or wear either the eye or pin.  Also, below the lower connection, mine has two links to the halyard block, lacks spacers on the upper, but has multiple washers where the block is pinned. WTH?

As I clean this unit up I plan to place washers as spacers, allowing for some “slop” and machine a third link that I can go spacer-link-spacer-link-spacer-link-spacer.  Thoughts?

2. Thinking about going with 1/8” 12 strand spectra for the jib halyard. Anyone ever done this?

I have spectra for my jib halyard.  It has worked great.
