The Richmond Yacht Club is excited to host the U20 North Americans.   We are pleased to have Ian McClelland as our PRO. He has served as a race official for high-level events in San Francisco Bay, South Florida, and Panama events involving a variety of boats including dinghies, multihulls, kite boards, and small to large keelboats.  In addition to his role as a certified Principal Race Officer (PRO), Ian McClelland is a recognized expert in race management who provides training for race committees and safety personnel.  He promises a well run and fair regatta to all of our participants.

The Club will supplement the RC with its members, but we also look to participants who may have family members, friends, and even spare crew that would like to witness the race "on the water" and cheer you along.  The list for volunteering for the event can be found at this link or contact Mike Josselyn if you are interested.  You get to see the racing close up, get a free lunch, beer after the race, and an opportunity to hear from all the participants on how they sailed.

Your host committee at Richmond Yacht Club is working on finalizing the NORs for the North Americans.  We plan on having an awesome event sailing out of the Club on the Southampton Course area.  Watch this space for the links to the NORs and other information about the event.

There is strong interest from U20 owners from other parts of the US in attending the event, but driving a boat out to the West Coast is a big commitment.  If you are an owner on the west coast and interested in chartering your boat, please PM me about your interest and I can connect you with possible charterers.  Other options for owners who want to sail their boats but don't have full crew available is ask other U20 class members from the east coast or midwest to join them.  Finally, if you have a U20 on the west coast but haven't sailed it in a North American event and want to have a skipper who has, we can help you find one.   You can PM me and I'll work with you to find the best option.

If you want to just come and watch the event, the best way is to be on the Committee boat or mark boat.  Bring your camera and catch some great action and terrific views on San Francisco Bay.  Our volunteer signup list is available and you can sign in for one, two, or three days on the water (free lunch too!)

The NORs are attached to this posting.  They will be published at the registration site on Regatta Network by the end of June.  The event is being coordinated with the Express 37 Nationals. We will be sailing in the Southampton Course area which is near the Richmond Yacht Club.  The Express 37s will have a longer course and fewer races than what we expect for the U20s.

The Registration website is now open for the U20 North Americans.  The event is being held in conjunction with the Express 37 Nationals but registration is separated for the two fleets.  Registration is $270 for three days of racing and three tickets for Saturday night dinner at the Club. You can order additional dinner tickets when you register. The Club is also open for dinner on Friday and Sunday night at standard galley prices. You do not have to enter the crew information at time of registration but can edit your registration later once you know who will be attending with you.

The Richmond Yacht Club is busy preparing for the upcoming North Americans on October 2-4th.  We hope that you are considering coming and experiencing a first class experience on the water and at the Club.  You can add to that experience by booking a room at The Hotel Mac, an historic vintage hotel located in Pt Richmond.  The hotel is offering U20 sailors a discounted rate for your stay during the U20 North American Championship.  The hotel is located in "downtown" Pt Richmond and all the local restaurants, including a new one that opened recently in their lower level. 

The discounted rate is only available for reservations made between August 5 and August 19.   Only 10 rooms are available in the reserved block including suites.  You must call the hotel to make the reservation and use the promo code "Richmond U20 Regatta".   You can see more about the rooms and the hotel at their web site.

The U20 North Americans are 3 weeks away.  We have a very competitive fleet signed up so far, but welcome more U20 sailors to the Richmond Yacht Club for exciting racing on the water and a welcoming event at our Club house.  Be sure to sign up before the 15th of September to avoid the late fee.

We have some great memorability for each team thanks to a generous gift from a RYC Club member,  In addition, Ullman Sails Newport Beach donated a new jib that was auctioned off to support the hospitality events off the water.   

You can also order custom U20 NA apparel with the Club's partner, Bonfire.  Order early so you have it for you and your crew at the event.  Anyone can order these one of a kind items so let other U20 owners know.
