Just an FYI.  The most ever at a U20 NAC was at Lake Norman in 2004 with 24 in attendance and the most ever U20s at a single event (in the world) was the East Coast Championship at Lake Norman in 2006 with 27 on the line.  You guys just may have the venue to bring enough of these great boats together for a U20 record setting event!

Look Steve, if you can tow three or four Ultimates to Florida for the winter you can surely drag one to Colorado next summer for the NAs.  Just trying to put things in to perspective, that's all.

Steve, I have a few things up in the air for that time frame but if I am not there I'm sure Lehman would bring Scissors out with my truck.  If I am there, the Minnesota/Wisconsin contingent won't fit in our tow vehicles (by number not size!) so we will get Scissors out there.  Just book a flight.

Maybe we could fly my padawan apprentice to Lake Norman in March to tow the boat and blender back for the Northern Tier and NA's.  He would need a vehicle but could convoy withDobie for lodging and to tell him if his rig was ON FIRE!!!

To Jim and the rest organizing NA's,

I have a request that I would like to float...

The original proposal, as I understood it, was for NA's to precede the Dillon Open.  This has been moved so that NA's will follow the Dillon Open.  This creates an issue for those of us with a 2-day or more drive.  For some of us, it may not be practical to race the full five days.  The issue is that when we arrive, it will be in the middle of a pretty large regatta on a relatively small lake.  This will make tune-up challenging for those boats that are not also racing the Dillon Open.  I would think the goal would be to encourage boats that are even far away to race NA's and that they would not be heavily penalized because they cannot race the DO.

If it is feasible and depending on the number of boats in this situation, (I suspect it will be about 4-8), it would be nice to have the Dillon Open race committee give those boats a practice start and race following the last regatta start on Sunday afternoon.  I for one would be willing to pay some small start fee for that privilege and I think it would go a long way toward a level playing field against those boats who have been racing for two straight days at the venue.

Please think about this and perhaps anyone else who has this issue and/or alternatives to this issue can chime in with their thoughts.

We have 22 committed on the class website and with you that will make 23. I’m looking to see 30 plus on the start line and we have boats coming from all corners of the country. Lets keep them coming in and set a new record for the most competitors at a U20 regatta and the North American Championships.

I am considering this regatta, but would like to know what we are going to do with boats with new carbon spars. I really do not want to stir the pot, so to speak on this issue. I am fine with whatever the class decides, and I understand the carbon spar is currently not class legal. I just need to know when we are likely to have a decision one way or another for this specific regatta. I have to schedule time off months in advance.

I do have a new carbon spar on the way, and I once I move the fittings over to the new mast I plan on permanently retiring the old half twisted spar.
